The empower Nickel Sensitivity Test is designed to determine the presence of genetic variants that may affect your sensitivity to nickel. Nickel is a common metal found in many everyday items such as jewellery, kitchen utensils and zippers, as well as in many foods such as tomatoes, canned goods, cocoa, and chocolate. Some people may be more sensitive to nickel and develop allergic reactions or skin irritation when exposed to this metal. This nutritional genetic test is based on DNA analysis taken with a simple cotton swab, from the comfort of your home. We will take a sample whenever you want and analyse it in Eurofins' Genoma laboratory, one of the largest in Europe.

What is a genetic test?

A genetic test looks to identify genetic variations and/or mutations based on a person’s DNA sample. The results of such tests can be used to provide personal characteristics and genetic predispositions to certain diseases. This can be used proactively in a preventative medical approach before symptoms ever manifest.

Is there a difference between sensitivity and intolerance?

To put it simply, a sensitivity is your bodies reaction to food or other substances but does not involve the immune system. An intolerance is your body reacting to food or other substances due to an immune system response. Both can cause unpleasant symptoms, but the underlying causes and coping mechanisms are different.

How long does my sample last after collection?

You should plan to ship your sample back the same day you collect it. Take your completed kit to a local An Post office before end-of-day pickup to have it overnighted to the lab (Monday – Thursday only). empowerDX is not responsible for An Post shipping delays.

Does this test provide permanent results?

The results of this test are permanent. The genetic predisposition shown in your results will highlight your long-term reaction to caffeine.

When will my kit be delivered?

Your order will be delivered with An Post within 3-5 business days. At home tests are shipped Monday – Friday. Make sure to order in advance to avoid possible shipping delays.

Every test kit comes with a prepaid return shipping label that should be used to ship the kit back to our laboratories for analysis and reporting.
